Clay Gaspar is a seasoned upstream energy executive in the U.S. oil & gas industry, and since March 2025 has served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Devon Energy Corporation [DVN]. He rose through technical and operations roles at several exploration-and-production companies, later leading as COO and President of WPX Energy and then EVP/COO of Devon prior to the CEO appointment. He is known for operational discipline across drilling, completions and production, with a focus on sustainable returns and safety & environmental metrics.

Early Life

Clay Gaspar attended Humble High School (Humble, Texas) before proceeding to university. Though precise birthplace and childhood hometown are not widely published, his formative schooling was in Texas and his early career began in technical engineering roles.

A registered professional engineer and member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers. 

Named by the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City as a member of its Economic Advisory Council (effective Jan 1, 2021) reflecting his broader engagement beyond purely company operations.
